How CO2 Manager Protects Your Data – Transparency, Trust, and Blockchain Technology

Data protection is not a side issue for CO2 Manager – it is a central concern.

Because anyone working with CO₂ data bears responsibility: for the environment, for their own organization – and for the sensitive information that enables this journey.

When we presented our CO2 Manager software at the Technical University of Gebze, we were asked a key and very valid question:

"How does CO2 Manager actually protect sensitive user data?"

This question hits the core of an increasingly data-driven world where responsibility and trust take top priority – especially when it comes to CO₂ savings, consumption data, or company-specific processes.

Our promise: Top-level data protection

CO2 Manager was developed not only to transparently calculate CO₂ emissions – but also to fully protect our users' data. Because we know: The data foundation is the heart of any evaluation. That’s why we rely on future-proof technology:

CO2 Manager is built on blockchain technology

The decision to base our platform on blockchain was no coincidence – it was a conscious step toward maximum security and data integrity.
What does this mean in practice?

  • Immutable data structure: Once entered, information cannot be changed – ensuring transparency and traceability.

  • Decentralized architecture: Data is not stored on a single server, but distributed across a network – increasing reliability and protection against attacks.

  • Complete documentation: Every change is recorded chronologically – with no hidden adjustments.

Data privacy and blockchain – a balancing act of responsibility

We don’t just take data privacy seriously – we also carefully follow the recommendations of official bodies – especially the European Data Protection Board (EDPB).

In its recent guidelines, the EDPB emphasizes that the use of blockchain technology must be especially well thought-out when personal data is involved.
Because classical blockchain systems don’t allow deletion or modification of entries afterwards, this poses challenges for the “right to be forgotten” and other rights of data subjects under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The EDPB’s clear recommendation is:
Where possible, personal data should not be stored directly on the blockchain. Instead, anonymous or pseudonymous data structures should be used, preventing traceability back to individuals.

At CO2 Manager, this is exactly what we focus on:

✔️ We avoid storing personal data directly on the blockchain,
✔️ use off-chain solutions for sensitive information,
✔️ and follow the “Privacy by Design” principle – integrating privacy into the core of our technical architecture.

We also conduct data protection impact assessments whenever new features carry a higher level of risk – just as required by the GDPR.

Conclusion: Trust is no coincidence – it’s about technology + attitude

At CO2 Manager, we believe that real progress can only happen when technology and ethics go hand in hand.
Data protection is not a bonus feature – it is a core principle of our product.
